Why I do...what I do

January 13, 2018

It’s January 2018, I have been starting and stopping this blog at least a dozen times. I’ve been uncertain where to start…thought about going through the steps to a skin care routine…a power ingredient/product…the benefits of organic skincare.  The struggle is REAL!  However, yesterday, I sat down with a great massage therapist that I’d met at an event and as usual the conversation turned to services and treatments, and why we do what we do.  After leaving her, I decided that why I decided to go into skincare might be a good place to start.

As a kid, my skin was incredibly sensitive… I was pale, almost translucent with a bluish hue if you will.  Going outside was tough, I had very dry skin that burned easily, suffered from heat blisters, severe cases of childhood eczema, and reacted to most sunscreens with an intense itch and rash flare up.  One would say I looked like a Spumoni…brown hair, green from sunburn induced nausea, and a red…red burn.  I hated it!  I stayed inside… A LOT! I hated my skin! I felt like it had turned on me.

Flash forward… things had changed somewhat. Through trial and error, I learned what ingredients to avoid, which helped, and my skin leveled out a bit.  During this time, I began working at a salon + day spa. I was a receptionist, and later the general manager. I began to learn about professional skin care and met some incredible estheticians, who helped me create a skin routine that had amazing results.  For the very first time… I felt comfortable in my own skin!  I was hooked, I read everything I could about the skin care line, its ingredients, and I decided then and there that at some point I was going to become an esthetician.

Life being what it is… after six years I went for my esthetics license… I learned so much at school, and the salons I’ve been privileged to work at, and from the estheticians who I’ve met both personally and professionally. Through all the services I practice, my favorite is helping people with reactive, angry, red skin… I love their reaction upon seeing their skin, cool, calm + soothed.  I love that they feel comfortable in their skin.

In 2016, I partnered with Buffalo Gal Organics, a locally produced, plant-based professional skin care line, and I haven’t looked back.
