self care sundays

Self care and the slow beauty movement...I've started and stopped this at least a dozen times. My January didn't exactly get off to the start I had hoped... my resolutions fell by the wayside and I've been left in the wake of weight gain, exhaustion, and low energy.  But thanks to a snowy Sunday spent in the kitchen with St. Elmo's Fire, I got a little well deserved r + r.  And then Monday happened and BAM, but that's okay.  Yesterday's oasis helped prepare me, mentally at least for the trials + tribulations of this very MONDAY Monday.  And that is what self care is all about after all, isn't it?

We're planning a Self Care Sundays series of events at Buffalo Gal, starting February 3rd.  I've been doing research and development to prepare for them, looking for rituals and recipes to inspire our guests to take time to fill their cups.  After all it is my profession to help people feel + look their best. I've poured over Pintrest looking for the perfect smoothie, searched Google for the best guided meditation app and purchased Slow Beauty by Shel Pink. Her mantra of practice makes process has helped me begin my own process of self care.  I love the organization of her book, the pillars and proclamations that help you be your best so you can give your best. Recipes for food, skin care +  herbal teas inspired by Ayurveda + the seasons fill the pages. It helps guide the way for true self rejuvenation and  it is one of our models for our Self Care Sundays. With that being said... I am a work in progress...

I have to say, in theory, I would love to wake up a dawn everyday and do a yoga practice by candle light while the sun rises, however I love sleeping under my weighted blanket ( Thank you, Kevin!) and spending my morning enjoying a cup of hot, black coffee in a delightful sugar skull mug gifted to me by one of my absolute favorite people and watching the new trailer for Avengers: Endgame.  It's my guilty pleasure and it makes me happy + that's the lesson I'd like people to take away...Whether it's yoga + meditation, hiking, bullet journaling, soaking in a lavender bath salt infused tub or cooking with the brat pack, it's all self care! Do what makes you happy and fill your own (sugar skull) cup!
